CARNARVON NATURE RESERVE

Situated in the arid landscape of the central Karoo, Carnarvon Nature Reserve extends over 670ha of flat Karoo scrubland and rocky hill country. The reserve was originally part of the town commonage until it was proclaimed a nature reserve in 1971. Hartmann's mountain zebra, eland, blesbok, gemsbok, red hartebeest, springbok, black wildebeest and ostrich were reintroduced here. There is a network of good game-viewing roads and walking is allowed.

No accommodation is available in the reserve. The town of Carnarvon has hotels and a camping site. The reserve is open throughout the year. Opening time: 08h00 to 17h00.

How to get there:
From Carnarvon take the R63 southwards towards Loxton. The reserve is on the right, 1km out of town.
